Pegi Smith was born in Canada
to Austrian immigrants. Her creative spirit
blossomed early in life. She always knew who she was. She wrote
and
illustrated a book for her mother when she was seven years
old...Her mother
kept and cherished it until the day she died. When she was
eight she began
learning the violin. She studied privately for eight years,
playing all the while
in the school orchestras, mostly first chair, and with her
grandfather, also a
violinist. She then went on to play several styles including
jazz, rock, rhythm
and blues etc. As a teenager she also apprenticed under her
father to become
a third generation dental technician. She took that one more
step and began
painting on crowns... up to this day, she still paints custom
paintings on
crowns. She also made miniature sculptures, on her fingertips,
out of the
same porcelain used to make crowns. Pegi took a pottery class
in high school
and one of her first pieces was taken to an art show by her
teacher. Pegi
began studying Ballet and Jazz when she was twenty. After ten
years, she
realized she started too late, but still loves dance. She dabbled
with paints
from time to time but was very intimidated by her father, an
artist/
painter...he was a realist and did not understand her paintings....she
soon gave
it up for sculpting out of clay....She took up painting again
in the year 2006
passionately! Pegi now works full time on her paintings and
sculptures and
music...The creative process permeates her heart and soul,
which gives her
such passion for life!
